Jason Mraz has new music coming for his fans, but he may release it under a different name.
At the CMA Awards on Thursday night, the singer told AccessAtlanta.com that on and off, for the last six years, he's been collaborating on music with an all-female group called Raining Jane, whose percussionist, Mona Tavakoli, also tours with him. Now, Jason says the results of that collaboration are finally ready to see the light of day.
"I’m finishing a new record this month, out next year and back on the road," he told the website. "It’s tender, it’s lush, it still very much sounds like my records. It’s very positive, upbeat." Noting that the music is a true collaboration, he said he doesn't just want to release it under his own name.
"We don’t have a name yet, but they’re called Raining Jane, so we’re thinking Jason and the Janes," he says.
Jason has some tour dates lined up in Brazil for December, and on Monday, he's playing a special acoustic set at a benefit concert that will raise money for the Rob Machado Foundation, which provides funding for educational programs for kids. Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls is also on bill.
