Watch Goo Goo Dolls Singer Screw Up the Lyrics, Sambora Sing with Stevie on Hollywood Christmas Parade

Image credit: Chapman BaehlerSometimes it's hard to believe that artists can get the lyrics to one of their best-known songs wrong in concert, considering how many times they have to sing them.  But Goo Goo Dolls singer Johnny Rzeznik says that's just what happened to him during a recent Christmas special taping, and you can watch tonight to see just how badly he messed up.

Not long ago, the Goo Goo Dolls taped the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade special, along with Daughtry, Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora, Stevie Wonder, LeAnn Rimes and Star Trek's Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner.  Johnny tells ABC News Radio that he and the band were playing their hit "Better Days," but because they had to perform a shortened version of it, he completely lost track of his place in the song.

"I started singing the wrong words. You have to see it! I'm calling myself out on this because I screwed it up so bad!" Johnny laughs.  He tells ABC News Radio, "I was literally standing up there singing [gibberish] -- I forgot the words completely!  So keep an eye out for that!"  When asked why they wouldn't simply edit out his mistake, Johnny laughed, "I don't think they can!"

Johnny adds that William Shatner had just performed before them, and claims that the actor's number was so strange that it threw him off his game.  "I was overwhelmed because I had just seen William Shatner perform...a really bizarre sort of spoken word thing," he laughs. "He's, like, 80 years old and he's still going for it!"

You can watch all this go down tonight on the Hallmark Movie Channel at 5 p.m. ET/PT, and see if Johnny's exaggerating. Meanwhile,  speaking of screwing songs up, Johnny says he's "terrified" he may do the same thing this weekend when he sings the national anthem at the Green Bay Packers game in Wisconsin on Sunday.

"I want to do it because I'm terrified to sing it," he tells ABC News Radio. "I've never been this nervous about anything in my life. Like, you can't screw that song up! So it's a challenge."

After that, Johnny will spend what he calls a "low-key" Christmas in L.A. with his new wife, Melina, who he married in July, plus their pets and a few family members.  Not on the agenda: tons of presents. "Little gifts," is how Johnny describes the couple's plans. "There's nothing that we really need. It's more like, we just like to hang out with each other."  The two will actually go on their honeymoon in the spring of 2014.

Meanwhile, Richie Sambora, who you'll see duet with Stevie Wonder on "Silent Night" at the Hollywood Christmas Parade, says his Christmas will be spent with his teenage daughter Ava, whose mom is Richie's ex, Heather Locklear.  Richie says that he and Ava will "stay home first," enjoying "the tree and the food."  "After we do that, we usually hit the beach for a week, to get her ready for going back to school," he explains.  Asked if he has any special Christmas dishes he likes to prepare, he laughed, "I don't make anything. Are you kidding me?  I've been on the road for 30 years, man!  I just dial room service, baby!"
