Former Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship singer Marty Balin soon will give fans a chance to enjoy a whole other aspect of his artistic talent when an exhibition of his artwork opens January 16 in New Port Richey, Florida. The show, titled "Music of My Life," will viewable at Pasco-Hernando Community College through February 20.
The 71-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will attend an opening reception on January 16 that will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET. Balin's paintings focus on the many music acts with whom he performed over the years, as well as artists who influenced and inspired him. Among the subjects of his pieces are his Jefferson Airplane band mates, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Elton John, Bo Diddley, Otis Redding and James Brown.
Balin also has a handful of 2014 concerts lined up in the coming months, including a February 8 show at Pasco-Hernando Community College and a February 22 show at San Francisco's Throckmorton Theatre, the latter of which also will coincide with an exhibit of Balin's art. In addition, Marty has a pair of performances scheduled in March that will take place at the Fur Peace Ranch, the Ohio venue run by ex-Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen.
