Garth Brooks makes his third appearance on the annual Kennedy Center Honors special Sunday night singing the hits of this year's recipient, Billy Joel. Garth has previously performed on the show in honor of George Jones and Loretta Lynn.
He tells ABC News Radio, "I've been very, very lucky that the three times I've done it now, with Billy being the third, these were all epic, iconic heroes that influenced my life and my music."
The Kennedy Center Honors were held earlier this month in Washington, D.C., and Garth admits he had a hard time figuring out which one of Billy Joel's many hits to perform on the show.
"His catalog is so deep, you could have taken the six or seven songs that we did for a tribute to him, wipe them out and put six or seven more Billy Joel songs in there, and I don't think you would notice a difference," Garth explains.
He adds, "You'll be stunned if you look up and actually see how many Billy Joel songs you know and that you really loved."
Carlos Santana and Shirley MacLaine are among the other Kennedy Center honorees this year. The special airs Sunday night at 9 ET on CBS.
