Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Emeli Sande Compete for "British Grammys" Wednesday in London
EmeliSande.comThe Grammy Awards are over, the nominees for Canada's Juno Awards have been announced (see related story) and Wednesday night in London, music's top names will be competing for the Brit Awards, the U.K.'s top music prize.
The Brit Awards present trophies to British acts and so-called "international" acts, including Rihanna, Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys. Both Rihanna and Alicia are up for International Female Solo Artist, while Frank is nominated in the category International Male Solo Artist.
As for the British categories, Emeli Sande is up for British Female Solo Artist. Her name appears twice in the British Single category, once for her song "Next to Me" and again for her guest spot on U.K. rapper Labrinth's "Beneath Your Beautiful." Emeli's debut project, Our Version of Events, is also up for an award in the British Album of the Year category.
Emeli tweeted that she's excited about the Brit Awards, hinting in an Instagram post that she'll be performing new music during the ceremony. "Backstage at BRIT rehearsals #newsongsrollin," she captioned a photo of herself playing guitar.
