Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks takes a detour into rock territory on her solo debut album, Mother, due out May 7. The album title comes from the Pink Floyd cover Natalie sings on the album, and she takes on songs from Eddie Vedder and Jeff Buckley's respective catalogs too. The result is something very different from her hits with the Dixie Chicks.
"Lots of albums by lead singers might just as well have been made by the band, but I think this is very different from anything the Chicks could make," Natalie explains. "That separation and distinction was important."
Natalie's Dixie Chicks band mates Emily Robison and Martie Maguire have co-writing credits on "Come Cryin' to Me," a song that was too rock to make their last studio album, Taking the Long Way.
This isn't the end of the Dixie Chicks though. The group has a few Canadian dates booked this summer. For more details, go to NatalieMainesMusic.com.
Here's the Mother track listing:
"Lover You Should've Come Over"
"Vein in Vain"
"Come Cryin' to Me"
"I'd Run Away"
"Take It on Faith"
