Just because Keith Urban is a judge on American Idol doesn't mean he knows the voting results before everybody else. Keith actually finds out which contestant is going home when the viewing public does.
"I don't know how the voting works out," Keith tells People. "I didn't know who the top 10 were until they were chosen by America when they read it out in the moment. I prefer it like that. I love the raw energy of it all."
Keith is also mindful of what he says when critiquing the young singers on American Idol since he's a musician too. That task isn't an easy one for him.
Keith says, "We're artists talking to a young artist on camera in front of millions of people, trying to give constructive criticism in a way that doesn't humiliate them. I don't ever want to humiliate somebody."
Watch Keith and his fellow judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson critique the top eight contestants' performances on American Idol, Wednesday night at 8:00 Eastern.
