A 1967 Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album autographed by all four members of The Beatles was sold on Saturday for $290,500 by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. The album's pre-sale estimate was $30,000, but two bidders vying to own the rare piece of music memorabilia drove the price to a record high.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the U.K. Parlophone copy with a high gloss cover and gatefold was purchased by an unnamed buyer from the Midwest. The previous record for a signed Beatles album was $150,000 for a copy of Meet The Beatles.
Other items that sold during the same Heritage auction include an Abbey Road display cover signed by John Lennon that fetched $7,812.50, the same Abbey Road cover signed only by George Harrison that brought $5,626.25, and a copy with just Paul McCartney’s signature that went for $1,375.
