Stevie Nicks Discusses Her "In Your Dreams" Documentary, Which Opens in Theaters Tuesday

Weapons of Mass EntertainmentIn Your Dreams, the documentary that chronicles the making of Stevie Nicks' 2011 solo album of the same name, gets its theatrical release starting on Tuesday.  The movie, which will open in more than 70 theaters across North America that day, was directed by ex-Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart, who also co-produced and co-wrote the songs on Stevie's record.

Nicks tells Billboard that there are a lot of reasons to enjoy the flick.

"It's a magical little film," she declares. "It really allows you to sit right there with us through the entire year of the making of In Your Dreams, and it's funny. It's really funny [and it's] really compassionate."

Nicks adds that she hopes people who see In Your Dreams then will "really want to hear the record, even if they didn't know I had a record out."

In addition to showing Nicks and Stewart working on the album in Stevie's Los Angeles mansion, the movie captures them enjoying a bevy of activities with a revolving cast of musicians and friends, including dinner parties, costume parties and more.  The film features cameos by Stevie's Fleetwood Mac band mates Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and actress Reese Witherspoon.

In an exclusive clip from the film posted on Billboard.com, Nicks reveals that she began coming up with tunes at a very early age.  She also explains how getting her heart broken by "a beautiful boy" when she was 16 still affects her approach to writing songs.

"When I write about love, I take it very seriously when someone that's 15 or 16 says to me, you know, "I'm just so in love with this boy,'" notes Stevie.  "I'm like, 'I understand…I get it.'  That's what being a writer is, being universal."

In related news, Variety reports that the Virgil Films company recently struck a deal to release In Your Dreams to video-on-demand outlets and as a digital download sometime in late spring.
