Kacey Musgraves has made the biggest splash of any country newcomer so far this year with her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, topping Billboard's Country Albums chart a few weeks back. While Kacey is thrilled with the big sales numbers, she's most happy the fans are taking her songs and making them their own.
"They all start from somewhere that inspires me, the songs do," Kacey tells ABC News Radio. "So then when they're out and I see them resonating with other people, it makes me feel like I did my job as a songwriter, and that's just, that's kind of my favorite part."
For the follow up to her top 10 debut hit, "Merry Go 'Round," Kacey went with the sassy track "Blowin' Smoke," which tells the tale of a bunch of waitresses dealing with the reality of life in a small town diner. Kacey makes her acting debut in the clip, but she warns fans not to expect an Oscar-worthy performance from her just yet.
Says Kacey, "This will be my video debut. I've never done that before, and I feel like I suck as an actress. I'm really, really not that great, so I'm really hoping it doesn't come across badly."
The concept for the video won't stray too far from the song's cinematic lyrics either.
"It'll be in this old, dusty diner, and we'll have a bunch of old waitresses, and it'll be real fun," Kacey says.
Kacey is currently on the road with Kenny Chesney's No Shoes Nation tour with a show in Columbia, SC coming up May 4.
