Elton John's new album The Diving Board will be out in September on Capitol Records, and he says his excitement over the project led him to choose its title.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elton said at a showcase previewing the new disc, "I felt that it was a very perfect title for the album because I am on the diving board. I feel like I'm starting again, making records and trying to see how this one does."
Noting that he was nervous about introducing the new songs, he added, "Fear is a good thing. Without fear, you have nothing. Perfection is everything you chase, and I don't want to be perfect. I want to be imperfect because as human beings we should be imperfect."
The album, produced by T Bone Burnett, features a stripped-down sound mostly based around on piano, bass and drums, like Elton's earlier records.
"The Diving Board" is also the name of a song on the album. Other tracks include "Ballad of Blind Tom," "Voyeur," "Home Again," "Mexican Vacation (Kids In The Candlelight)" and the one Elton says is his favorite: "The New Fever Waltz."
