Anne Frank's Stepsister: Yes, She Would've Been a Justin Bieber Fan

Courtesy: Teen VogueJustin Bieber has taken a lot of heat for a comment he wrote after visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, expressing his wish that Frank, a young Jewish girl who died at the hands of the Nazis during World War II, would have been a fan of his.  But now someone who actually knew Anne Frank says that, in fact, she probably would have been a Belieber.

Eva Schloss was a close childhood friend of Anne Frank's, and after the war, Anne's father Otto married her mother, making her, in effect, Anne's stepsister.  Speaking to the British paper The Telegraph, Schloss, who's 83, says the uproar over Justin's comments is "childish."

"She probably would have been a fan. Why not? He’s a young man and she was a young girl, and she liked film stars and music. They make a lot of fuss about everything that is connected with Anne Frank," says Schloss, a concentration camp survivor.

She describes Anne as "very lively," adding, "She was more intellectually developed [than I was], quite interested in clothes and boys.”

Justin wrote in the guest book at the Anne Frank House, "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

In 1942, when she was 13, Frank went into hiding with her family after the Nazis occupied the Netherlands. Her family was later captured, and Frank died in a concentration camp of disease and exhaustion.  Her diary, published in English in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl, has made her a powerful symbol of the horrors of the Holocaust.
