When Beyonce kicked off her The Mrs. Carter Show world tour earlier this week in Serbia, people couldn't stop talking about that sparkly gold number -- the one with the molded nipples -- that she wore on stage. Well, that eye-popping costume wasn't easy to make, and designing duo David and Phillipe Blond, known together as The Blonds, tells Fashionista how they put the piece together.
"To start, Phillipe hand painted the suit on Beyonce to achieve the correct shading," The Blonds say. "The piece was then hand embroidered with approximately 30,000 Swarovski crystals that took over 600 hours to apply."
The end product was "meant to give the illusion of being covered in crystallized honey. It’s a couture look that would not only be stunning, but, also reflect [Beyonce's] personality and the music from this segment of the Mrs. Carter Tour," The Blonds say.
The designers worked with Beyonce, her mom, Tina Knowles, and her stylist, Ty Hunter, to put together the wardrobe item, which The Blonds call "one of the most glamorous and provocative looks [Beyonce's] ever worn."
