Thompson Square Reveals the Ups and Downs of Their Live Show

Stoney Creek RecordsThompson Square is on track to score their second #1 hit with "If I Didn't Have You," following up their debut chart-topper, the romantic "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not."  Though the married duo's Keifer and Shawna Thompson are very happy in their love affair, they want fans coming to their shows to experience more than just one emotion.  That's why they included plenty of uptempo songs on their new album, Just Feels Good, as well as a few more ballads.

"The kind of show that we want to go to takes you up and down and up and down," Keifer tells ABC News Radio.

He adds, "It can't be just fist-pumping the whole time, and there's several different layers to what me and Shawna do.  I don't want to go out there and sing ballads all night, and to Shawna.  I mean, I love her and we like doing that thing, but neither one of us want to go out there and do that for an hour and a half."

Thompson Square has learned about how to take audiences on that musical ride while touring with superstars Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Luke Bryan over the past few years.  Seeing those acts in action gave Keifer and Shawna permission to really branch out with their live show too.

Says Keifer, "We learned from all of them that it's OK to have fun and rock out.  It's OK to be a married couple and turn guitars up to 11.  It's OK to show some intimacy on the stage, and it's OK to laugh at yourself.  It's just OK to be yourself."

Thompson Square take their well-rounded set list to Stagecoach Country Music Festival for a show in Indio, CA this weekend.
