To the dismay of some Beyonce fans, her big reveal on Thursday morning was a Pepsi commercial, and not a brand-new music video or a live video stream from her anniversary celebration with Jay-Z. Still, that Pepsi ad had special meaning for Beyonce, who says in a behind-the-scenes clip that it represents, "being proud of who you were, but living in the now and living in the moment."
As creative director Frank Gatson Jr. explains, his team came up with four different vibes for the Pepsi commercial. But when Beyonce showed up to the dance studio to check out the choreography, she didn't like what she saw, so the moves were re-worked.
The end product, which fans saw earlier this week, shows Beyonce facing off with a few different incarnations of herself over the years. "It felt so emotional when I was trying on all the costumes from my past, and I was surrounded by so much of my history. Especially on the 10th anniversary of 'Crazy in Love.'"
Beyonce's "Crazy in Love," featuring Jay-Z, was the released in May 2003. It was the lead single from her first solo album, Dangerously in Love.
