Even though Jon Bon Jovi told Ellen DeGeneres not long ago that Richie Sambora is "absolutely" still a member of the group, it doesn't appear as though the guitarist will be rejoining his bandmates anytime soon.
A note on Bon Jovi's website states that "due to a personal matter, Richie Sambora will not be performing on the European and South African leg of the tour. All shows will go on as scheduled."
The South African tour begins on May 7; the European tour gets underway on May 14.
Sambora last addressed his personal status on April 18, when he tweeted, "Hey everybody... Just want you all to know I'm all good... Thanks for all the positive vibes." However, it's still unclear what the "personal" matter is that has kept him from performing with the band since the very beginning of April. Judging from the postings on the band's website, some fans are frustrated and are demanding an explanation, while others argue that the guitarist's personal business is just that, and any fans who want the details are selfish.
Bon Jovi will perform five stadium shows in the United States beginning July 12 in Chicago. The band just announced that The J. Geils Band will open for them July 25 and July 27 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The July 27 show is a schedule change after being originally planned for July 24.
It was previously announced The J. Geils Band will open the Chicago shows, as well as concerts July 18 in Detroit and July 20 in Foxborough, MA.
