Drummer Lars Ulrich says that Metallica fans will need to wait about two years before they can get their hands of the band's follow-up to 2008's Death Magnetic.
"We're in the early stages of writing, and all I can say is there are some good things lurking," he tells Revolver about the forthcoming release. "We've got to put them into song shape and get our asses in the studio. I hope we can do that by the end of the year, maybe early next year. 2014 is a bit optimistic for the album to come out, so '15 is more realistic."
The next big thing coming up for Metallica will be their second annual Orion Music + More festival, which takes place June 8-9 at Belle Isle Park in Detroit. In addition to headlining sets by Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers, the event also includes performances from Rise Against, Deftones, Silversun Pickups, Dropkick Murphys and Foals.
