Rocket PicturesRocketman, the biographical musical movie about Elton John, is one step closer to coming to an American theater near you. reports that a company called FilmDistrict is about to pay 10 million bucks for the U.S. rights to the movie, which will show Elton growing from child prodigy to global superstar.

In addition, Deadline appears to confirm previous reports that British actor Tom Hardy is "circling" the role of the adult Elton, but he's not officially attached to the project.  Hardy's best known recently for playing the villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.  The search for an actor to play Elton as a child is currently underway.

As previously reported, Rocketman won't be as straight biopic; instead, it will feature "fantastical choreographed sequences" set to Elton's biggest hits.  The script is being written by Lee Hall, who wrote the movie Billy Elliott and the lyrics for the Broadway production, for which Elton wrote the music.
