The second installment in a series of archival concert albums from the Jerry Garcia Band was released Tuesday. Garcia Live Volume Two: August 5th, 1990 Greek Theatre features a complete and previously unreleased performance the late Grateful Dead frontman's side group played in Berkeley, California.
The 16-track album, which is available as a two-CD set and a digital download, features a number of interesting cover tunes, including Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up in Blue" and "Forever Young," Van Morrison's "And It Stoned Me," The Band's "Evangeline," and the Motown classic "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)." Banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck joins the group for a couple of songs, one of which is a rendition of Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come." Fans can listen to that track online now in a just-posted YouTube video.
Garcia Live Volume Two features a late-era lineup of the group, with John Kahn on bass, Melvin Seals on organ, David Kemper on drums, and Jaclyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones on backing vocals. You can order the album now at JerryGarcia.com, Amazon.com and iTunes. At Garcia's official website, special bundles are available that include a T-shirt and a commemorative poster.
