Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Lewis Lead MTV Video Music Award Nominees

MTVIt'll be a showdown between Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.  Each act scored a leading six nods in nominations announced Wednesday morning.

Timberlake's nominations include Video of the Year for "Mirrors," which is also nominated for Best Male Video, Best Pop Video and Best Editing.  He also scored two noms for his "Suit & Tie" collaboration with Jay-Z, in the Best Collaboration and Best Direction categories.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis also scored a Video of the Year nomination, for "Thrift Shop."   "Can't Hold Us" earned nominations for Best Hip Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing, and "Same Love" is nominated for Best Video with a Social Message.

Right behind Justin and Macklemore & Lewis is Bruno Mars, with four nominations, including Video of the Year for "Locked Out of Heaven."  The other Video of the Year nominees are Robin Thicke, for "Blurred Lines," and Taylor Swift, for "I Knew You Were Trouble."

"I Knew You Were Trouble" is also nominated for Female Video of the Year.  You'll recall Taylor won that category in 2009, the year Kanye West interrupted her acceptance speech.  Taylor made light of that incident in a tweet to her fans: "If you vote and get us one, I promise to keep a firmer grip on the mic this time ;)."

Pink, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus and Thirty Seconds to Mars received three nominations each.

Beginning today, you can vote in general VMA categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com. In addition, you can vote for Artist to Watch -- formerly Best New Artist -- by texting VOTE to 22444 or by visiting MTV's official Facebook page.

The MTV Video Music Awards will be presented August 25 in New York at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.  You can find the full list of nominees at MTV.com.
