This week saw the release of Ron Isley's new album, This Song Is for You -- the legendary singer's third solo effort to date. The disc includes Isley's latest single, "Dinner and a Movie," which has been a hit on urban radio.
Isley tells ABC News Radio that he's managed to create an album that is not only cohesive, but full of songs that can stand alone as singles.
"The new album is fantastic," he says. "There's 12 songs altogether, with two duets with Kem and one with Trey Songz, and it's 12 special songs, with no album fillers or nothing like that. This is a Grammy-winning album. I'm so proud of it."
After spending more than five decades in the business, Isley ought to know a good album when he hears it. The crooner's newest offering adds to an extensive catalog filled with classic records dating back to his many hits as lead singer with The Isley Brothers, from 1970s classics like "Between the Sheets" and "That Lady," through 1960s funk standards like "It's Your Thing," all the way back to 1959's "Shout." As he prepares for his summer tour with Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and Kem, the singer says he appreciates the opportunity still to be able to bring his personal style to his fans.
"I'm blessed to sound the way that I want to sound, to be able to do these songs and please my fans and just have a ball with it myself, you know. And I thank God for that," he said.
Ron is on the road with Maze and Kem from a July 26 date at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, through a September 1 show at the Chastain Park Amphitheatre Atlanta.
This Song Is for You is available in stores and online now.
