Smokey Robinson has tapped former American Idol judge Randy Jackson to produce his upcoming duets album, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The collection of tunes will be the Motown legend's first release for the Verve Records label, and is expected to hit stores this fall.
"Randy Jackson is a longtime friend, a great musician and an amazing, experienced record producer," says Robinson in a statement. "I'm honored and very happy to be working with him. He's my brother."
Adds Jackson, "It's my utmost pleasure to produce this amazing duets record with the legend Smokey Robinson. He is one of the most incredible songwriters of all time. It's going to be hot!"
The album is expected to feature Robinson performing new renditions of many of his classic tunes alongside both veteran and contemporary singers.
Robinson first revealed plans for his duets album during a March appearance on American Idol, just a few weeks before Jackson announced he was leaving the program.
