Fourth of July Music on TV and Stage: Neil Diamond & Much More

NeilDiamond.comMusic fans will have a little more reason to celebrate on the Fourth of July, as they'll be able to watch performances by a bevy of great pop and rock artists, both on TV and on stages around the country.

Over on PBS, the annual special A Capitol Fourth will feature Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow and the cast of Motown: The Musical, among other entertainers.  Diamond is debuting his new single, "Freedom Song (They'll Never Take Us Down)," which was inspired by the Boston marathon bombings.  Tom Bergeron hosts the festivities, which air live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., at 8 p.m. ET.  Fireworks are included, and so is live cannon fire, provided by the U.S. Army Presidential Salute Battery.

Bergeron says he's looking forward to Diamond's performance. "Coming from the Boston area, as I do, that has a particular resonance for me too," he tells ABC News Radio.  According to Bergeron, the event in general is special to witness in person.  He explains, "It's amazing. It really is.  It's a big finish to a big party."

Meanwhile, over on NBC there'll be a multi-generational pop diva collision on the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, airing from 8 to 10 p.m. ET.  Cher, Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift all perform, with a one-hour fireworks encore special airing at 10 p.m.
