A Geneva court has denied a request by Shakira’s ex-boyfriend to freeze the assets of one of her bank accounts, as part of a legal battle between the two.
Antonio de la Rua has argued that he is entitled to a portion of her assets stemming from a business partnership he says they forged after the two broke up in 2011.
The court ruled June 18 that de la Rua may not access an account Shakira has with a Swiss bank because he did not prove he has any ownership interest in her assets or business. The decision was made public Friday.
De la Rua filed a lawsuit against The Voice coach in Los Angeles, in a case that’s still pending. In addition, Shakira has sued de la Rua over an investment she made in a real estate project he has tried to develop in the Bahamas.
Shakira and de la Rua , the son of a former Argentinean president, split in 2011 after nearly 11 years together. She’s now with soccer player Gerard Pique, the father of her child.
