Beyonce’s father has reportedly tied the knot, giving the singer a new stepmother.
Mathew Knowles exchanged vows last month with Gena Charmaine Avery, 48, who is a former model, according to E! News. The pair had been engaged for a year and a half.
Mathew’s spokesperson, Priscilla Clarke, confirmed that the couple held a private ceremony in Houston, Texas, alongside immediate family members. Beyonce and Solange failed to attend their father’s big day.
"Unfortunately, Beyoncé and Solange had previous engagements which made it impossible for them to attend," Mathew said in a statement.
The 61-year-old president of Music World Entertainment was previously married to Beyonce’s mother, Tina, for 31 years before she filed for divorce in 2011 -- the same year Beyonce professionally parted ways with her father, who served as her longtime manager.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Tina stated the marriage was "insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities which prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation." Tina initially filed for divorce in 2009, a month after news emerged that Mathew had fathered a child with former Scrubs actress Alexsandra Wright. The initial case was dropped.
