Katy Perry's new single is off to a roaring start, sales-wise.
Industry insiders tell Billboard that Katy's song "Roar" is selling so well that it's on track to move 450,000 copies by the end of the week. The song was rush-released to digital providers on Monday after it leaked over the weekend. That's likely enough to ensure that the track will rocket to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- right now, it's at #85, where it debuted solely based on radio airplay.
As for the other high profile release by a female pop star this week, Lady Gaga's "Applause" is on track to sell 200,000 to 225,000 copies after being put on sale on Tuesday. Things could change over the weekend, though, depending on how active Gaga's Little Monsters get with their downloading. On Thursday on Twitter, Gaga declared herself "so happy" with the news that her song was #1 on iTunes worldwide, and pre-orders for her album ARTPOP had also pushed it to the top of the iTunes chart.
