Las Vegas is a big town for conventions, and now one of the town's biggest music headliners is getting his very own fan gathering.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that the inaugural Las Vegas Elton Expo 2013, celebrating all things Elton John, will take place October 4-5 at the Tuscany Suites and Casino. The three-day event will feature panel discussions, presentations and musical performances, a silent auction that benefits John's AIDS foundation, and an appearance by Elton's longtime backup musicians Davey Johnstone and Nigel Olsson.
The event, organized by the Elton John fan magazine East End Lights -- the title is a reference to John's hit "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" -- will coincide with a new run of performances by the pop-rock legend at Caesars Palace. There will be a lot to celebrate, since Elton will have just released his brand-new disc, The Diving Board, about a week before the convention.
The event also will feature what's being billed as "a very special mystery guest." The magazine's publisher says in a statement, "I am not at liberty to reveal any details about this special performance and I've been sworn to secrecy. However, what I can tell you is that this is something that has never occurred at any of our past Elton Expos...Attendees will be treated to an intimate musical performance."
Does that mean that John himself will put in an appearance? Well, he will be in town, and he loves his fans. Stay tuned.
