How cute! Lovebirds John Mayer and Katy Perry are now both holding down the identical spots on the Billboard album and singles charts, respectively.
John's new album Paradise Valley has debuted at #2 on the Billboard album chart, with first-week sales of 144,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan. It's his sixth studio album out of six to reach the top 10.
That's the good news. The bad news is that John's last two albums -- Born and Raised and Battle Studies -- both debuted at #1. And here's more bad news for John: Paradise Valley had the lowest sales for one of his regular studio albums since his debut, Room for Squares, back in 2001.
Katy, meanwhile, holds at #2 with her hit "Roar" -- for the second week in a row, she's been unable to dislodge Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" from the top of the Hot 100 this week. It's been there for an amazing 12 weeks.
Katy is #1 on the digital chart, because "Roar" is outselling "Blurred Lines," but so far "Blurred Lines" has hung onto the #1 spot because it's gotten way more airplay than "Roar."
By the way, any bump in sales thanks to the MTV Video Music Awards won't be reflected until next week's Billboard charts.
