The game of musical judges' chairs over at American Idol just won't end. The latest rumor? Harry Connick Jr. is on the shortlist to fill the third slot on the panel for the upcoming season.
As Idol viewers know, Harry's made a big impact each time he's acted as a mentor on the show, which he's now done twice. The most recent stint came this past season, when he argued with Randy Jackson about how contestant Kree Harrison should have approached a song. Harry has said in the past that he's not sure if he'd be good at judging the show, but he's enjoyed being a mentor.
The decision to take a look at Harry comes in the wake of the news that super-producer Dr. Luke has turned down the chance to join the panel, and so has Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun.
So far, the only person confirmed for the Idol panel is Keith Urban, though Jennifer Lopez is said to be a done deal as well.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that taping of Idol auditions, which is supposed to begin next Tuesday, might be delayed since the judges' panel has not yet been filled out.
