James Brown Biopic "Get On Up" Scheduled to Hit Theaters in October 2014

Bob King/RedfernsUniversal Pictures has revealed the release date for Get On Up, the upcoming dramatic movie about late, legendary James reports that the movie will premiere on October 17, 2014.  The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Chadwick Boseman, who starred in this year's Jackie Robinson biopic 42, will portray Brown in the forthcoming production.

As previously reported, Get On Up follows Brown's life story as he rises from extreme poverty to become the Godfather of Soul and one of the most influential music artists in history.

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and his company Jagged Films, are co-producing the project in conjunction with Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer.  The movie will be directed by Tate Taylor, whose previous project was 2011's Oscar-winning flick The Help.

According to, Brown had been involved in developing the biopic prior to his death in December 2006 at age 73.
