Congratulations to Natalie Cole, whose first-ever Spanish-language album, En Español, has nabbed three nominations for the 2013 edition of the Latin Grammy Awards. En Español is in the running for the Album of the Year and Best Traditional Vocal Album honors, while the song "Bachata Rosa," a duet featuring Cole and Dominican star Juan Luis Guerra, is up for the Record of the Year prize.
Responding to the exciting news, Cole said in a statement, "I'm so very proud that this record has been accepted in this way. With these nominations alone we have made history. I hope this is the kind of inspiration that will give other artists the courage to step out and follow their creative dreams."
En Español, which was released in June, features Natalie's renditions of songs that she considers among the most romantic Spanish-language tunes ever written. The album was partly inspired by her late father, Nat King Cole, who recorded three successful albums in Spanish during his career. The record includes a studio-created duet between Natalie and her dad on the song "Acércate Mas."
While Natalie is a nine-time Grammy Award winner, she has never previously received any Latin Grammy nominations.
The 14th annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, and will air live on the Univision network.
