Kenny Rogers returns with a new album, You Can't Make Old Friends, on October 8. The diverse project includes a duet with Dolly Parton on the title track. Of course, Rogers and Parton scored a massive hit 30 years ago with another collaborative tune, "Islands in the Stream."
Kenny says, "What a thrill it was for me to work again with my buddy, Dolly Parton, and what a special song. Working with Dolly is always a little like going home. Everything felt comfortable."
The rest of Rogers' new album includes forays into soul, Southern rock, zydeco and gospel.
"It goes from songs I would normally sing, to songs I would normally never even listen to," Kenny admits. "In this business, you do albums to both grow artistically, and for the sheer love of music. We chose what I think are the most diverse and best songs I've ever had access to."
Rogers also has a new novel titled What Are the Chances that's now in stores, which he co-wrote with Mike Blakely. In addition, look for Kenny's new autobiography, Luck or Something Like It, to come out in paperback on September 27.
