Last week, we learned that The Lumineers are among the big names contributing new songs to the soundtrack of the highly-anticipated Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. But even before the announcement came, it turns out the band had debuted their track live in concert, and a video of the performance is now circulating online.
Performing in Redmond, Washington on September 21, the band performed "Gale's Song" for the first time live. Gale, played by Liam Hemsworth, is the name of the best friend of Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen, the Hunger Games heroine, and their relationship seems to have inspired the song's lyrics. He's in love with her, but she can't openly return his love, because she has to pretend to be in love with Peeta, the boy with whom she fought in the Hunger Games. In the new movie, Katniss has to once again leave Gale behind to join Peeta in yet another fight for their lives.
"All this too shall pass/this loneliness won't last," sings Lumineers frontman Wesley Schultz. "It's a long road/I wasn't there to take his place/I was 10,000 miles away...I won't fight in vain/I love you just the same/There was a time when I stood in line for love/but I let you go."
The Catching Fire soundtrack arrives in stores November 19, with songs from Christina Aguilera, Imagine Dragons, Lorde and Ellie Goulding.
