Paul McCartney Children's Book to Become Animated Film

MPL/Mary McCartneyHigh in the Clouds, a children's book co-written by Paul McCartney that was published in 2005, is set to be turned into an animated 3D movie.  The film will include several original tunes composed by the ex-Beatles star.

The story, which McCartney co-wrote with authors Geoff Dunbar and Philip Ardagh, focuses on a squirrel named Wirral who sets off to find a legendary animal sanctuary named Animalia.  Tony Bancroft, whose resume includes Mulan, will direct the film, while Shrek Forever After screenwriter Josh Klausner will pen the screenplay.  High in the Clouds will be co-produced by Unique Features and RGH Entertainmnet.

"High in the Clouds is a passion project for me," says McCartney said in a statement.  "Working with the highly creative talent at [Unique Features and RGH] together with Josh Klausner and Tony Bancroft, we will be able to create a warm, funny and moving animated film that will resonate with worldwide audiences."

Meanwhile, Unique Features executive Michael Lynne notes, "We know how special this project is for Sir Paul and how excited he is to be a part of this wonderful, creative collaboration."
