Sara Bareilles is gearing up to kick off her fall headlining tour this weekend, and one song that's sure to get amazing audience response is her latest hit, "Brave." Not only is the song catchy, but it's empowering, too, and Sara says she's thrilled that so many fans have told her how the song has inspired them.
"I love singing it because I like the message that it's putting out into the world," she tells ABC News Radio. "And people are feeling really open with sharing their stories as well, and I'm just getting so much awesome feedback. It's really wonderful."
Sara co-wrote "Brave" with Jack Antonoff of the band fun., and though it was inspired by something she experienced personally, she feels the message is pretty universal.
"For me, I was really impacted by seeing a good friend of mine struggle with coming out as an adult, at 35 years old and still keeping so much of themselves hidden," she explains. "And I just wanted to tell this person...'There's love waiting for you...I wanna see you just speak your truth and be exactly who you are, because you're amazing.'" She adds, "I'm glad that message of the song stayed broad enough where it doesn't have to be about that particular story...I'm glad that it's connecting."
Sara says it's been great seeing how a song that she wrote can affect so many people's lives on so many different levels -- including her own.
"It's an amazing journey," she tells ABC News Radio. "I feel really humbled and just so grateful that I get to be, like, a part of that exchange. I need that song as much as anybody else does. I look to those words for inspiration."
Sara's headlining tour kicks off Sunday, October 6 in Boston, and includes her first headlining show at New York's Radio City Music Hall.
