Chicago and REO Speedwagon have hit the road on a variety of joint tours over the years, but never with each other. That's all set to change this summer, when the two veteran bands are scheduled to join forces for a U.S. trek that will see them visiting a variety of cities around the country.
The tour, which currently includes 15 shows, is slated to get under way on August 2 in Phoenix and is mapped out through an August 30 concert in Dallas. Other major cities the bands will visit during the outing include Denver; Kansas City, Missouri; Indianapolis; Detroit; Cincinnati; Boston; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Atlanta. More dates are expected to be announced soon.
According to a statement from founding Chicago singer/keyboardist Robert Lamm, his band and REO Speedwagon "will perform together during the concert's encore and present a finale that will thrill their audiences." He adds, "As a musician who has always respected REO's skills, I look forward to our first rehearsals early this summer. This will be fun!"
Meanwhile, REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin says about the two groups' plans to collaborate on stage, "I love it that the Chicago guys feel the way we do about truly playing together when you tour together. Can you imagine the Chicago horn section on 'Roll with the Changes'? That would blow my mind!"
Tickets to most concerts on the tour will go on sale to the general public this Friday and will be available via the recently introduced Live Nation mobile app and at LiveNation.com.
