Kelly Clarkson Plays Herself on Tonight's "Nashville"; The Cast Sings Her Praises

Jeremy Cowart/RCA RecordsKelly Clarkson has become friends with several cast members of ABC's Nashville in the past year, so it's only natural for her to guest star as herself on the show tonight. In her short scene, Kelly meets with Scarlett and Gunnar to see about recording a song they've written, but Hayden Panettiere wishes it was her character, Juliette, who was sharing the screen with the singing star.

Hayden tells ABC News Radio, "I'm really bummed that I didn't get to do the scene with her. I was like, 'What? No! Pick me! Ooh, pick me! I want to act with her!' But, I can't wait to see it."

Hayden and Kelly have gotten to know each other since they both live in Nashville these days.

"She's just one of the nicest people you'll ever meet," Hayden says of Kelly. "She's really lively and fun and doesn't stop smiling, that girl."

Charles Esten, who plays Deacon Claybourne, was there the day Kelly shot her scene. He's also got to watch one of Kelly's recording sessions thanks to a mutual friend.

Says Charles, "It's kind of unbelievable, number one, the amount of talent she has, but, number two is just how cool she is. She's just the best. She's sweet, she's funny, and we're real lucky to have her."

Last year, Kelly also guest-starred as herself on the CBS comedy The Crazy Ones, starring Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Nashville airs at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday night on ABC.
