U2 was honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday. Bono and The Edge were on hand to accept the Sonny Bono Visionary Award, which was presented to the band in recognition of their humanitarian work, including the fight against AIDS in Africa.
According to Variety, Bono remarked, “We are for at the tipping point if we keep up the pressure of reaching an AIDS-free generation.”
He added, “Vision without promise is a fantasy and we’re not interested in that.”
Other honorees at the event included Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and the cast of American Hustle.
On the red carpet at the festival, Bono also offered comment on the passing of Phil Everly of The Everly Brothers the day before. Bono told Entertainment Tonight, "You can't avoid those harmonies, if you're a musician," adding, "One of my prized possessions is an Everly guitar -- beautiful guitar made by Gibson."
Entertainment Tonight will have more on the festival on Monday's episode.
