Deep Purple Members to Make Cameo Appearance in New Israeli TV Series

Photo: Jim RaketeTwo longtime members of Deep Purple, singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover, will make the leap from the concert stage to the TV screen when they film cameo parts this weekend for a new Israeli series named Atlantica.  The show, which focuses on an up-and-coming rock band from Jerusalem that happens to idolize Deep Purple, is expected to debut in late 2014.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gillan and Glover will portray themselves in the episode, which will include a scene where the fictional band's manager -- a high school teacher played by Israeli comedian and musician Tal Friedman -- begs the veteran British rockers to let the young group open a show for them.

The TV shoot will take place between Deep Purple's two scheduled concerts in Tel Aviv, Israel, this Saturday and Sunday.  Friedman and his real-life group, The Fat Cats, will serve as Purple's actual supporting act at the Saturday show.

Gillan and Glover's appearance on Atlantica, which will mark both musicians' acting debut, is expected to be featured on the final episode of the program's first season.

Deep Purple has just launched a series of international tour dates in support of its most recent studio album, Now What?!
