"Clueless" Director Praises Iggy's Video, Says Katy Perry's Interested in Appearing in a Musical Based on Film
Clueless is one of the touchstone movies of the '90s, and like many beloved movies these days, there's a plan to bring it to the Broadway stage -- and Katy Perry may want to star in it.
Amy Heckerling, the woman who directed Clueless, tells New York magazine that she's written the book and song lyrics for a musical based on her movie, but it's in the really, really, early, early stages. Despite that, Amy says she thinks she knows who should play Cher, the main character, portrayed onscreen by Alicia Silverstone. "Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death,” Heckerling said, but says she realizes that the singer's schedule might make it difficult for her to commit.
Meanwhile Heckerling says she's impressed by Iggy Azalea's video for "Fancy," which is a deliberate remake of Clueless. "It looked like they had more money for the video than I had for the movie,” she told New York magazine. "But I was extremely flattered and I thought she was amazing. And whoever did the costumes, I don’t know how they did that.”
In fact, if the plan for Katy to portray Cher doesn't work out, Heckerling says, "Maybe Iggy wants to do it!"
