Ringo Starr Marking 74th Birthday Today with "Peace and Love" Celebration in L.A.

Rob Shanahan/Universal MusicRingo Starr turns 74 on Monday, and as has become a tradition for him in recent years, the legendary Beatles drummer is asking fans to join him in spreading a positive message on his birthday.

"Every year on July the 7th…at noon, I ask everybody would they please just go, wherever you are in America at noon, would you just put your fingers up [in a peace sign]…and go, 'Peace and love,'" he tells ABC News Radio.  Starr himself will be hosting a live "peace and love" moment at 12 p.m. PT in Los Angeles outside of the Capitol Records Building, a site he notes is "meaningful" to his old band as it's the home of the Fab Four's U.S. label.

Ringo points out to ABC News Radio that he's held previous birthday celebrations at such locations as Chicago, New York City and Germany.  "Wherever I am on July the 7th, we do this," he declares.

The event takes place during an off day on Starr's current U.S. tour with his All Starr Band.  The trek picks back up again on Wednesday with a show in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
