Jason Mraz Is "Back in Love" with His Old Hits as He Launches World Tour

ABC NewsJason Mraz kicks off his world tour in support of new album YES! on Thursday night, and he says the fact that he'll be hitting the road with Raining Jane, the all-female band who's also featured on the album, has made him "fall in love" with his old songs once again.

"Specifically for this album, it was a collaborative experience, and the sound that we make as a five-piece creates a unique sound," he tells ABC News Radio. "And so I get to run all my old songs through this new filter that Raining Jane provides."

"I've fallen in love with some old songs, thanks to what these girls are inviting me to do," he added, saying he was excited to play familiar hits like "The Remedy" with all-new arrangements.

"It's not that I had fallen out of love with it, it's just that I thought I had run out of ideas for that song," he says of "The Remedy," his breakthrough hit. "And then I just recently re-tuned my guitar and went at it a different way....opened my heart again to the song, and I'm excited to bring it back."

In addition to enjoying the new spin that he and Raining Jane are putting on the old favorites and the new material, Jason thinks that fans will like the fact that this new tour will be more intimate, because they're playing theaters rather than arenas.

"The songs take on new, more simpler acoustic forms and also their voices are angelic and it provides these layers I've yet to have so far," Jason explains. "And because we're in smaller venues, a conversation can occur onstage between myself and the audience."

One highlight of Jason's tour comes in September, when he'll play in all five boroughs of New York City -- Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx -- in five days, beginning September 17 in Brooklyn and wrapping September 22 and 23 at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan.

Jason's kicking off the tour with three shows in San Diego; he's lived in the area since 1999 and owns an organic avocado farm there. The Times of San Diego reports that to mark the beginning of the tour, the mayor of San Diego declared this past Tuesday to be "Jason Mraz Day" in the city.
