Van Morrison has long been considered one of the most literate and poetic singer/songwriters of his era, and now a book featuring some of the 68-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's most memorable lyrics, chosen by the artist himself, is scheduled to be published in the fall. Lit Up Inside: Selected Lyrics, which will be released in U.S. on October 2, will feature words to songs Van the Man considers his most enduring and important work.
"The lyrics in this book span 50 years of writing and as such are representative of my creative journey," says Morrison in a statement.
The book features a foreword by poet David Meltzer that expresses appreciation for the literary quality of Morrison's lyrics. The 230-page volume also includes an introduction by Dr. Eamonn Hughes, a literature professor at Queen's University in Van's hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland, who takes a look at Morrison's career and influences.
Van will celebrate Lit Up Inside's publication by appearing at a special one-off event held on November 17 at London's Lyric Theatre, during which he will read, perform and talk about his work. Also appearing that evening will be Hughes, poet Michael Longley and authors Ian Rankin and Edna O'Brien, among other luminaries.
