Jason Derulo: Why I Had to Defend Myself Against Cheating Accusations

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images via ABC While Jason Derulo prepares for a major headlining tour of the U.S., he's also having to deal with the fallout from his breakup with Jordin Sparks, his girlfriend of three years. On Friday, he issued a statement denying rumors that he'd cheated on her, and he tells ABC News Radio why he felt he had to defend himself in that way.

"It was just so hard to watch," he told ABC News Radio not long after releasing the statement.  "Because all these different sites were making up different things. And they were making up specific stories, and the stories were so specific that it  looked believable.  It was like, 'What the f**k is this?'  And it was crazy to sit there and watch, so I had to say something."

In addition, Jason seems to feel that one person in particular should have spoken up.

"I didn't hear Jordin saying anything to, like, defend me, you know what I'm saying?" he told ABC News Radio. "So I was like, 'All right, I gotta step in and say something.'"

The couple's split came as a surprise to fans, since the two were constantly seen together and spoke openly of getting married one day. Jason's current album features the song "Marry Me," and Jordin even co-starred in the video with him.  While right now, the actual reason why the two split isn't something either of them are talking about, Jason tells ABC News Radio, "It was something that needed to happen."

"I'm all right," he says. "I'm good with the situation and I feel okay."

Jason's tour kicks off October 15.  This Friday, Jordin's new movie Left Behind hits theaters.  Jordin, whose only comment on the situation so far has been to tweet, "Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened," is busy promoting that film, and is also hard at work at new music.
