Neil Diamond to Release New Studio Album, "Melody Road," Next Month

Capitol RecordsNeil Diamond will release his first new studio album of original songs in six years, Melody Road, on October 21

The 12-track collection, which was co-produced by Don Was and Jacknife Lee, also is the acclaimed singer/songwriter's first release as part of his new deal with Capitol Records, and will be packaged with a 36-page book that includes the lyrics and chords to each tune.

Meanwhile, Billboard reports that Diamond attended a private listening party for Melody Road at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles on Monday night.  At the event, the 73-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer that the album's main theme is love.

"I don't understand [love] and I want to understand why it's so powerful," he said.  "I always want to ask that question and give an answer that suits me, whether it's true or not."

Neil revealed at the event that he began writing one of the tunes, "Seongah and Jimmy," at an engagement party for his brother-in-law and his Korean-born wife.  "This lovely couple filled with the excitement for their new life to come," recalled Diamond.  "They were engaged without ever sharing a word in a common language except I love you."  Neil told the audience that the couple got to hear the finished song on the day they were married.
