Expanded 40th Anniversary Version of Jethro Tull's "Minstrel in the Gallery" Album Due Out in May

RhinoA deluxe, expanded version of Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery celebrating the 1975 album's 40th anniversary will be released on May 5.  The Minstrel in the Gallery: 40th Anniversary La Grande Edition is a limited-edition package featuring two CDs and two DVDs.

The four-disc set will include a CD featuring a remastered version of the original album, as well as the B-side "Summerday Sands" and six previously unreleased bonus tracks; another CD containing a live performance taped at the Palais des Sports in Paris in July 1975; and DVDs boasting surround sound and high-resolution stereo digital mixes of the recordings featured on the CDs, as well as an eight-minute film of the band at the aforementioned Paris show.  The collection will be housed in a case-bound book that features an 80-page booklet offering an in-depth look at the album, track-by-track annotations by frontman Ian Anderson, lyrics, rare photos, tour information and recollections by various Jethro Tull associates.

Minstrel in the Gallery, Jethro Tull's eighth studio album, peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200.  The record eventually was certified gold by the Record Industry Association of America for U.S. sales of more than 500,000, although it did not yield a charting single.  It was the last album to feature Tull's classic early-1970s lineup of Anderson, guitarist Martin Barre, keyboardist John Evans, drummer Barrie Barlow and bassist Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond.

The unreleased bonus tracks featured on the expanded album include versions of Minstrel in the Gallery's title track and "Cold Wind to Valhalla" and the Tull classic "Aqualung" recorded at the BBC version.  The live album boasts performances of such popular songs by the band as "Living in the Past," "Cross-Eyed Mary," "Bungle in the Jungle," "Aqualung" and "Locomotive Breath."

The remastered version of Minstrel in the Gallery also will be released as a single CD and vinyl LP on May 5.
