Beatles-Themed Piano Autographed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr Auctioned for Almost $100K

Image Courtesy of Kim BergeronThe Beatles-themed antique piano that surviving Fab Four members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr signed last fall to help raise money for a New Orleans-area Habitat for Humanity chapter sold at auction Thursday for big bucks.  The instrument brought in $98,888, just shy of the $100,000 it was expected to fetch.  The winning bidder was an unidentified woman from Florida.

The piano was autographed separately by Starr and McCartney, respectively, on October 17 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and October 28 in Louisville, Kentucky, during the rock legends' tour stops in those cities.  The instrument, which dates back to 1908, is decorated with a variety of Beatles-related images and phrases painted by Lori Gomez, an artist from the New Orleans suburb of Slidell, Louisiana, where the East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity is located.

The charity will use the money from the auction to support its Veterans Build initiative, which helps provide housing to local veterans and their families.

You can read additional details about the piano, including the interesting story behind how Starr's and McCartney's autographs were procured, at RightBrainDiaries.com.
