Sevyn Streeter Talks About Her Return to Philadelphia to Sing National Anthem

Dennis LeupoldSevyn Streeter is heading back to Philadelphia!

The singer recently sat down with Fuse TV to talk about her rescheduled appearance in the City of Brotherly Love to sing the national anthem during tonight's Philadelphia 76ers versus Los Angeles Lakers game.

"You know at the end of the day, I wanted to spread awareness about what's going on in our country. It's unfortunate what happened, me not being able to sing the anthem at the 76ers game because I was wearing a shirt that said 'We Matter.' But guess what? All that did, it was an unfortunate situation, but all it did, now there's gonna be even more awareness," Sevyn told Fuse.

"I say all the time, when you love something you want it to be the best version of itself. I love my country. I just want it to be better. The anthem is just a sense of pride and represents America. I feel like I can do both. I want American to be really, truly be great."

Sevyn was supposed to sing the Star Spangled Banner in October during a game between the Sixers and Oklahoma Thunder.

However, she claimed that her national anthem performance was cancelled because she wore a "We Matter" jersey to the game.

Later, the Philadelphia 76ers issued an apology letter to the vocalist, stating that "the wrong decision was made, and Sevyn should have been welcome to sing," along with the opportunity for her to "perform at a game of her choice."
