Sarah McLachlan Releasing Christmas Album, "Wonderland," October 21

Verve RecordsSarah McLachlan lives in the Great White North -- that'd be Canada -- so she's obviously comfortable with snow and ice.  That probably came in handy when she was making her new Christmas album, due October 21.

The disc, Wonderland, features 13 contemporary and traditional holiday songs, including "Silver Bells," "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Away in a Manger," "Let It Snow" and "Silver Bells." Also included are some lesser known songs, like "Snow," written by Randy Newman, and "Huron Carol," Canada's oldest Christmas song.

On the album, Sarah welcomes guests like country music legend Emmylou Harris, Canadian folk singer Martha Wainright, the Canadian indie rock band Half Moon Run, and, oddly, the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra.

"I love everything about Christmas and this record was a joy to make," Sarah says in a statement.

Sarah's previous holiday album, Wintersong, came out in 2006.  She just wrapped up a tour with someone who knows a thing or two about Christmas albums: Josh Groban.
