Trent Reznor Composes Music for Environmental Documentary, "Before the Flood"

Rob Loud/WireImageNine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has teamed up with frequent collaborator Atticus Ross, plus Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla and Scottish rockers Mogwai, to create new music for the environmental documentary Before the Flood.

Directed by Fisher Stevens, Before the Flood follows Leonardo DiCaprio as he tries to raise awareness about climate change.

"The incredible music composed for Before the Flood was one of the most unique collaborations I can think of in scoring a film," says Stevens in a statement. "Reznor, Ross, Santaolalla and Mogwai become one voice in capturing the emotion and feeling of Leonardo DiCaprio's journey to understanding where we stand in terms of climate change, how far gone we are, what can we do about solving this issue and why people are still resistant to understanding how important it is."

While Reznor and Ross have composed music for films before -- The Social Network, Gone Girl -- their work on Before the Flood marks the first time the duo acted as music supervisors for a movie.

Before the Flood premieres today at the Toronto Film Festival. The film will hit theaters in New York City and Los Angeles starting October 21, and it will air on the National Geographic Channel beginning October 30.
